Tattoo
Removal Process
Consultation is the first step in the tattoo
removal process. All patients must schedule an initial appointment
so that the tattoo can be evaluated. Its size, shape, color, location
and origin (whether the tattoo was done by a professional or an
amateur) will all factor into the final price of the removal procedure.
Treatments should be performed by qualified clinical staff that
has been fully trained in the use of medical laser systems. The
number of treatment sessions will vary according to the type of
tattoo and the depth of the pigment. In some cases it may be necessary
to test a small area of a tattoo in order to establish the efficacy
of the treatment.
The nurse selects the appropriate wavelength
setting, prepares the laser, and draws it over the tattoo. The
laser’s wavelengths are transmitted through the epidermal
lining of the skin and absorbed by the ink chromospheres, which
are then broken down. The body can then dispose of the ink naturally.
After the procedure, the nurse will apply a bandage. The bandage
must be left in place for 24 hours following the procedure. The
patient is given detailed instructions about how to care for the
treated area, and then is free to resume his or her normal activities.
Treatment sessions may last up to 20 minutes and would normally
be spaced at intervals of 4-6 weeks. Most patients can easily
tolerate the sensation which is induced by the laser. However,
where discomfort is pronounced anesthetic tattoo removal cream
may be used.
Immediately following treatment the treated
area will whiten and then quickly become reddened. (In a few cases
slight bleeding may occur.) This is an indication that the laser
has successfully fragmented the target pigment and activated normal
skin repair mechanisms.
Following a period of 4-6 weeks the treated area will be completely
healed and it should be apparent that the density of the tattoo
has reduced. Treatment can then continue as required. When treatment
is complete a period of up to 6 months may be required for complete
regeneration of skin coloring and texture.
Sunscreen is a must if the tattoo is exposed. We sell very good
sunscreens that you can purchase. It is very important to keep
the treated area clean, but never scrub the area. If a scab occurs
leave it alone so that transient hypo pigmentation or hyper pigmentation
does not occur.
